Top parenting tips to help kids reduce mobile addiction in the online era

In today’s world where all our errands are run online, it is a difficult task for us to stay away from our mobile phones. Schools are facing a major online shift due to the pandemic and keeping children away from mobiles has become more challenging. Well this is not that difficult as it appears to be and addiction can be brought under control using few simple tips. Children’s screen time could be limited by indulging them in other productive activities which could be pen and paper based. It is mandatory for children to attend their online classes but it is not necessary for them to do their homework online. Utilize these simple chances to reduce the screen time of children.

One major issue is that parents tend to give children their phone when they have some work, In-order to keep children occupied and the parent’s work stays undisturbed. Parents often offer them mobile phones so that the children don’t cause any hindrance to their work. When children complain about being bored, parents tend to hand them mobile phones instead of spending quality time with them. Children must be indulged in activities that are neither causing addiction nor causing hindrance to the parent’s chores. Children should be encouraged to practice a new hobby in their leisure time instead of spending long and lethargic hours on some useless mobile application.

Children should be encouraged to develop their hobby which could help them improve their talent along with many other benefits. Children should be involved in activities that don’t include mobile phone such as painting, cooking or any other creative work where the child could improve their talent and focus as well. By developing their hobbies, children tend to become confident and more focused which could result in better academics.

Another thing that could be done is teaching your child household chores. While this might seem a bit uncomfortable and challenging during the starting, it would gradually become helping. By doing household chores, children learn to be independent and become efficient. By learning household chores, children tend to understand the parent’s efforts and the parent- children bond could be improved. Children could also be taught to read a book in their leisure time. Reading a book could help them improve their vocabulary and their writing skills could also be improved. Along with many other benefits, reading a book could help children to concentrate and develop proper understanding.

If your child refuses to eat, instead of offering them your mobile phone as a deal, try to offer them tiny presents such as a toffee or an ice-cream in the initial stages. When they make it a habit to have food without mobile phones, then we could reduce the amount of their gifts and turn them to a healthy path gradually. Remember this task could be highly challenging in the initial stages but as we strive hard, progress could be surely noticed and the addiction could be turned into the child’s strength through the above activities.
